Until the sixth phase, Nepal Australia Forestry Project organised its interactions with local communities at the level of range post, the station of office for DFOs. There were seventeen altogether, eight in Kabhre and nine in Sindhu Palanchok. Their distribution can be seen on the map and more information in the table.

When NACRMLP began in 2003, however, the Project had changed its approach: it had selected four corridors of 27 of the most mature CFUGs for concentrated work. Its motivation was to achieve the greatest possible consolidation of its achievements and the greatest degree of institutionalisation.
