Service delivery mechanism for OP revision

  • 1.1 Assist DFO staff to prepare simplified OP revision procedures1.
  • 2 Facilitate strengthening of local facilitators for assisting CFUGs in technical aspects of OP revision through DFO and other service providers
  • 1.2a Support DFOs to organize refresher training for those OP-TOT & OP revision facilitators who need enhanced skills in technical aspects of OP preparation
  • 1.2b Support DFO (KP) to organize exposure visit for OP revision facilitators to other CF project districts
  • 1.3 Support DFOs & CFUGs to revise OPs with detailed forest inventory and yield prescriptions with contribution of CFUGs assisted by local facilitators
  • 1.3a Support DFOs & CFUGs to prepare OPs with detailed forest inventory and yield prescriptions with contribution of CFUGs assisted by local facilitator

Pine spp. Plantation/ Sal forest management

  • 2.1 Support DFO/ DFRS to assess the extent and nature of pine plantation & Sal forests
  • 2.1.2 Liaison with Dept of Forest Research & Survey to reach agreement on staffing for inventory & suitability of available imagery
  • 2.1.3 Liaise w/ DFRS to agree on modality for undertaking inventory
  • 2.1.4 Support DFRS to undertake & analyze inventory & prepare forest profile
  • 2.1a GPS/ GIS training for DFO/DSCO staff
  • 2.2 Assist DFOs / DFRS to review existing silvicultural guidelines for pine plantation and prepare relevant guidelines for submission to MFSC as policy feedback
  • 2.2.1 Liaison with DFRS on existing guidelines & seek yield tables & silvicultural for sub-tropical Pines from foreign sources
  • 2.2.2 On basis of various guidelines & field observations, prepare up-to-date silvicultural guidelines for management of Pine plantations & Sal & other broad-leaf regeneration, & submit to MFSC for endorsement
  • 2.3 Support DFO staff to conduct field based forest management trainings for CFUGs adopting silvicultural prescriptions focusing on pine plantation & Sal & other broad leaf regeneration

  • 3.1 CFUGs for community plantation

  • 3.5 Support DFO for nursery establishment and operation
  • 3.6 Support DFO to conduct nursery refresher training

NTFP management

  • 4.1 Facilitate sharing with MFSC of inter-project & agency experience related to NTFP screening & inventory guidelines, & finalize guidelines for project use
  • 4.2 Support DFO staff and NTFP network to complete NTFP resource survey
  • 4.3 Support DFO staff and NFTP network to conduct NTFP management training and extension activities for facilitators
  • 4.4. Assist DFO staff & OP revision facilitators to support inclusion by CFUGs of NTFP management provisions in OPs

Community forage program

Support:

  • 5.1 DFOs & CFUGs to incorporate provision for community forage blocks in revised and new OPs
  • 5.1.1 Technical training programs for selected DFO/ DSCO staff and facilitators on forage block program
  • 5.1.2 On-site training/ demonstrations for focus cluster CFUG/ CDG members
  • 5.2 DFOs to draft proposed policy guidelines on community forage program to submit to MFSC

Forage Resource Centers strengthening

Support:

  • 6.1 DLSO, DSCO, DFO to strengthen existing forage resource centers
  • 6.1.1 Ongoing on-site technical support visits
  • 6.2 DLSO to organize forage seeds and planting material production training to FRCs
  • 6.3 DLSO, DSCO, DFO to purchase and distribute seeds and planting materials from existing FRC (last year’s commitment to FRC)

Village animal health workers’ capacity enhancement

  • 7.1 Complete ongoing support to DLSO and Panchakhal CFUG network to complete May 2005 training of CFUG members as a VAHWs
  • 7.2 Coordinate with DLSO and CFUG network to establish VAHW network as a service provider
  • 7.2.1 Interaction workshop

Soil conservation and land productivity improvement

  • 8.1 Facilitate DSCOs and user groups to review & revise community development plans
  • 8.2 Assist DSCOs and CDG network to produce seedlings, slips, and cuttings from user group and home nurseries, and forage resource centers, to demonstrate soil conservation technology on sloping and degraded land, landslides, and gullies
  • 8.3 Facilitate DSCOs for natural hazard prevention and development infrastructure protection works
  • 8.4 Support DSCOs to link water source management work with income generation activities such as vegetables, forage, and improved land use management practices
  • 8.5 Facilitate DSCO staff to implement community soil conservation (water source protection and management) work
  • 8.6 Assist DSCO/ DFO staff to manage soil conservation training, workshop (integrated watershed management, land use management, s/c, mushroom/vegetable, bee keeping training and stakeholder workshop) study tour, & extension (conservation day, school programs and extension material production)

  • Support DSCOs on-site support and capacity building training to strengthen effectiveness of CDG networks

  • 10.1 Support DSCOs for watershed management impact studies
  • 10.2 Prioritization studies for new watershed programs
  • 10.3 Assist DSCOs to prepare watershed management plans on the basis of prioritized watersheds

Promote understanding of recommendations on upper-slopes oak and conifer forest management
