This training needs assessment (TNA) was conducted
to determine disaggregated training requirements and forms
of delivery of training to FUG members. To maximise identification
of training needs, information was gathered using different
methods and sources: a prioritised problem analysis, a survey
focus ing on the level of organisational development of
FUGs , information from a TNA of local institutions and
information extracted from field visit and workshop reports.
Where possible, the study focused on gathering target group
specific information: needs of women, men, low castes, FUG
committee members, youth and children. Also, where possible
content for training was extracted and priorities of training
needs were determined. To determine suitable delivery systems,
each training need identified was subjected to a screening
process.
Seventeen types of training needs were identified ranging
from gender analysis to timber utilisation and leadership
to micro-finance. In this report, each training need has
been treated separately giving information on target group,
priority, delivery system and contents.
It must be kept in mind that the training needs identified
here are generic and that they reflect the needs of FUGs
at this point in time. Mechanisms have been instituted in
the project to continually update information on training
requirements. As needs and contexts change, delivery systems
and contents need to be adapted.
