This paper describes the activities and results
of the Nepal Australia Community Resource Management Project
aimed at strengthening the District organisations of the
Federation of Community Forest Users Nepal (FECOFUN), between
2000 and 2002. In the year 2000, in the two Project Districts
of Kabhre Palanchok and Sindhu Palchok, the District/FECOFUN
branches were very weak, having a low membership and offering
little if any services to their members. To strengthen the
organisation the following activities were carried out:
| |
Implementing a membership
drive. |
| |
Creating Range Post/FECOFUN
committees. |
| |
Identifying vision, goal,
objectives and roles of the Range Post and District/FECOFUN
organisations. |
| |
Supporting activities implemented
by both levels of the organisation. |
| |
Conducting workshops to review
the performance of both levels of the organisation and
plan for the future. |
The paper presents a number of outstanding
issues and recommendations for continuing support to both
the Range Post and District/FECOFUN organisations in the
near future.
